Obituary for
Garnett Ray Baker
Frankfort – Garnett R. Baker, age 97, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017. Services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, with Rev. Tom Troth officiating. Burial will follow at Bagdad Cemetery. Military Honors will be observed at the gravesite by the VFW Post 4075. Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. service time on Tuesday.
Mr. Baker was born in Frankfort on March 14, 1920, to the late Louis Harrison and Jessie Alma Goins Baker.
He was united in marriage to Anna Frances McCann Baker. He was a Charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Corps of Engineers serving in WWII. For many years, he worked as a Service Manager for Pontiac and Buick in Frankfort. Later, he owned Baker’s Auto Service. Aside from his family, his two lifelong passions were University of Kentucky Basketball and Fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sandra Rae Hester and husband Ray, and Ann B. Catlett and husband Bill; and by his grandchildren, Ian Hester and wife Angela, and Evan Hester and wife Dakota. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary will be the Deacons of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 684 Devils Hollow Rd, Frankfort, KY 40601.
