Walter C. Hammons
Walter C. Hammons, age 95, passed away at home on Friday, June 16, 2017.
Services for Mr. Hammons will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. His nephew, Louie Hammons, will officiate. Burial and military honors will follow at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Kentucky. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the Oddfellows Capital Lodge #6 will conduct a service at 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Hammons was born in Garrard, Kentucky on December 1, 1921, the son of the late Joseph and Jennie Mae Lawson Hammons. He was a retired partner of the Market House and Handy Markets of Frankfort. Walter was a proud US Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 7, a former board member of the Frankfort Housing Authority, a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Capital Lodge #6 and Past Grand Master and Sovereign Grand Lodge Representative for the state of Kentucky. He attended Crestwood Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Hammons, grandson, Chad Hammons and nephew, Gerald Hammons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Waldean McAlister Hammons; his son, Walter Hammons, Jr. and his wife Dottie of Lexington; grandson, Dwight Hammons (Carrie); sister-in-law, Lucille Hammons; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Gary Bizzack, Larry Montgomery, Kevin Bandura, Dwight Hammons, Jay Yale and Jorge Cuentas.
